About Howard Rontal

Howard RontalI have been a Certified Hellerwork Practitioner since 1985 and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Michigan in the early 70s.

My Hellerwork Training was conducted by Joseph Heller. I took five Hellerwork continuing education seminars in the first three years of my practice and continued to study privately with Heller during that time.

I am also a Certified Myoskeletal Alignment Therapist (the work of Erik Dalton), a Certified Structural Integrator SM, and am licensed as a massage therapist by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners, State of Maryland.

I've been teaching and expanding the Myofascial Release Massage since 1991. Currently I am visiting faculty at four massage schools on the East Coast and Midwest.

I have certified three other excellent bodyworkers to teach my seminars — currently in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

— What I Can Offer You —

Hellerwork

As a Hellerwork Practitioner I am trained to re-align the human body in the earthís gravitational field.

By the end of the 11 session Hellerwork series you will attain much better posture with much less effort and will notice that much chronic and acute pain, tension, and stress is greatly diminished or just plain gone as a by-product of the alignment process.

I offer Hellerwork in its full presentation:

  • bodywork
  • movement awareness exercises (so the tension we take out of the body on the table is not put back into your body during daily life)
  • conversation for self awareness, in which we discuss life themes (what inspires you, issues of self responsibility, issues of surrender and control) which are related to the areas of the body we are working on in that session

I also assign (with your permission) homework so that the better posture, the increased freedom of movement, and the insights you gained during the sessions are made part of your daily life.

The Myofascial Release Massage

This work, which I developed and teach, is a much simplified version of Hellerwork in that it takes strokes from each of the 11 sessions and combines them into a one to 1/ 1/2 hour full body Myofascial Release Massage.

Because I am intentionally and directly manipulating fascial tissue you will feel its relaxing effects from half a day to a week and cumulatively from session to session. If you like a deep massage you will love this work.

Problem Solving

Perhaps the most rewarding part of my work is helping people who have tried many approaches but found little or no relief.

I have a great deal of experience in working with specific issues. I specialize in

  • the relief of traumatic injury (for example, auto accidents)
  • relief from common problems —
low back pain, whiplash and other neck pain, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive motion disorders, frozen shoulder, and limited range and ease of motion
  • improving athletic performance
  • spinal curvatures

Because of the plastic nature of fascial tissue and the relatively non-invasive nature of my work I can be very, very flexible in my approach to your solving your problems. I donít have to worry, as a surgeon does, that if I try one thing and it doesnít work, that I will not be able to try something else.

My problem solving work is also very useful when done in conjunction with chiropractic care and physical therapy. (A number of my students have gone on to work for both chiropractors and physical therapists.)

"Of the courses I have taken I would say it is in one of the top three."

"Your course was the 76th I have taken and I feel I have the experience to know a good course when I take it."
